Machine Gun Merry

Merry arrived at Unbridled Spirits in June of 2023.

This New York-bred mare’s difficult-to-manage hormones, which significantly lowered her ceiling for racing success, forced an early retirement from the track. Deron and Cindy Filip, her owners, thought that to be the best option, rather than continue to race her at the low-level claiming ranks.

For her racing career, Merry had 17 starts, with two wins, a near 50 percent in-the-money mark, and lifetime earnings of over $41,000. Both of her triumphs came at Horseshoe Indianapolis. Her final race was a second-place finish at Belterra Park (Ohio) in September of 2022.

Al Khali, Merry’s sire, enjoyed a 41-start career, including eight wins (two graded stakes) and earnings of almost $1.02 million. Merry’s dam, Baby Cindy, was also retired to Unbridled Spirits, in early 2023.

After being difficult to handle upon her arrival, Merry has settled in, while working with our on-site volunteer trainers, Paul and Kristen. At the ranch, she can be found socializing with her pals, Naggedy Ann, Terra Luna and White Pass, a group that we affectionately call “The Book Club Ladies."
