This handsome California-bred, chestnut gelding arrived at Unbridled in June of 2020, after thriving for a few years as a very kind and well-loved lesson horse at an equestrian center in Southern California.
The eventing barn at the center, however, was forced to shut down during the coronavirus crisis, and Valentino was one of 31 horses that suddenly needed a home. Members of the staff at the facility reached out to Unbridled Spirits, on his behalf, which is what eventually brought him to his forever home.
A grandson of 1977 Triple Crown winner Seattle Slew, Valentino had his racing career cut short due to a "paralyzed flapper," a condition affecting the horse's larynx and resulting in a significant decrease in the size of the wind pipe diameter. Clinical signs include a whistling or roaring sound while breathing, and intolerance to rigorous exercise.
At our sanctuary, Valentino can be found sharing a paddock with his “Valentine,” grand mare Alina Alina, with whom he is inseparable. Valentino enjoys warm baths in the summertime and loves attention, especially while being cross-tied and groomed. He also has excellent ground manners.
Valentino would love to have that special human in his life to give him all the treats and loving he deserves.
