White Pass

This Iowa-bred, Thoroughbred mare landed at our sanctuary in 2023, after taking the "scenic route."

White Pass was initially acquired off the track seven years ago by Unbridled Spirits Executive Director Tina Norris. As part of a rescue-to-rescue placement, White Pass was sent to Hercules' Haven, also in Iowa, to serve as a companion to an elderly Quarter Horse, Ginger.

With Hercules' Haven dissolving in 2023, White Pass and Ginger made their way to Unbridled in late June. Although they arrived together, they split up to join separate "social circles." Ginger unfortunately succumbed to old age in early 2024.

White Pass, however, is thriving as a member of the group we affectionately call “The Book Club Ladies,” along with pals Machine Gun Merry, Naggedy Ann and Terra Luna.

On the track, White Pass made 14 career starts in seven different states, with the majority of them coming in her home state at Prairie Meadows.

Despite not being ridden for several years, White Pass was successfully put back under saddle last fall by Kristen, one of our volunteer trainers.
